A stress fracture is a tiny crack in a bone, usually caused by repetitive stress or force.
Stress fractures most commonly occur in the lower leg and foot, often from overuse through dynamic actions, such as repeatedly jumping up and down or running long distances. Sports that heavily feature these actions (such as basketball, track and field, or tennis), sudden increased activity, and weakened bones all put you at higher risk for stress fractures.
A stress fracture can be difficult to notice at first, as the pain is usually minimal. However, it usually worsens over time, with possible swelling around the affected area, as well.
If you suspect that you might have a stress fracture, come into PrimaCare Medical Centers and we’ll give you the professional care you need. While stress fractures generally aren’t serious injuries, if left untreated or undiagnosed, they can grow into chronic issues. Our doctors will take x-rays, assess the severity of your stress fracture, and prescribe the best method of treatment, whether a walking boot, crutches, rest, or, in rare cases, surgery.
Whatever the case, you can count on PrimaCare to give you outstanding care and maximum convenience.
